MOMO.
Marcelo Frota, a.k.a. MOMO., is an acclaimed Brazilian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Portugal. MOMO. absorbed many artistic influences during a youth spent between Brazil, Angola and the U.S., and as an adult in Chicago, Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro. In 2006, he released his first solo album, "A Estética do Rabisco", with influences from 1970s Brazilian psychedelic music. The album was featured in Daytrotter and in the international press and was named one of the best albums of the year by the Chicago Reader. Four more albums followed, further solidifying MOMO.’s gift of reinterpreting classic genres in the context of alternative music: "Buscador" (2008), "Serenade of a Sailor" (2011), "Cadafalso" (2013) - which received praise from singer Patti Smith -, and more recently "Voá" (2017), acclaimed by Talking Heads icon, David Byrne.
MOMO.’s music is also highly regarded by notable Latino musicians such as Wado, Marcelo Camelo, and renowned fado singer Camané, who have not only praised his work but have also been collaborators and performers in concert and in the studio.
Throughout his career, MOMO. has embarked on numerous tours in the US, Brazil, and Portugal. Among his notable live shows are his performance at David Lynch's Silencio Club in Paris and opening for Andrew Bird at Misty Fest 2016 in Portugal.
